Diploma in Computer Applications or DCA, is a 1 year diploma course which prepares the students for a career in the field of Computer Applications. Students are taught about the popularly used computer applications in modern businesses such as Microsoft’s Ms Office which is a collection of tools such as Ms Word, Ms Excel, Ms PowerPoint and commonly used internet applications, operating system, Database Management System (DBMS), etc. Students work on a number of subjects during these 12 months which include computer fundamentals and operating systems, representation of data, Information concepts of data processing, Windows operations, Windows control panel, Ms Office.
There is a great emphasis on the office applications such as Ms Word where topics such as creating, opening, saving and closing documents, formatting texts, handling multiple documents, special features such as mail merge are covered. Similarly in Ms Excel students are taught to create, open, save and close spreadsheets, manipulating cells, manipulating sheets, commonly used formulas and functions, filters, dashboarding, presentation, linking and sourcing files from external sources such as internet or excel spreadsheets, mail merge, etc are covered.
Students once familiar with the fundamentals then move on to some advanced topics such as operating system and application program, programming languages such as C, C++, Database Management System (DBMS), Visual Basics (VB), Internet and Web Page Designing, etc are covered. Following which the students are then given the opportunity to put their learning into practice by working on a capstone project.
After completing DCA, or if you meet the other eligibility criteria for PGDCA you can pursue this 1 year Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application. PGDCA focuses on advanced theoretical and practical subjects of Computer Science and applications in the IT industry. Students are taught about operating systems, Software engineering, database management systems, web programming, etc.
PGDCA starts off with covering the fundamentals of Information Technology and then diving into programming languages such as Visual Basics, Java, DBMS, Software Engineering, Data Structure and Algorithms, Oracle, Web Development, Business Process Automation, etc. Students are trained on practically commonly used popular business applications and procedures.
